Cosumnes preserve grassfire contained

SO. SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA - A grassfire at the Cosumnes River Preserve started by a helicopter burned six to eight acres Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.

The fire is believed to have ignited when a helicopter possibly made a hard landing west of Highway 99 in the noon hour. The flames consumed the aircraft.

The pilot wasn't hurt, said Cosumnes Fire Protection District Cheif Tracey Hansen.

Authorities were still working to determine if the helicopter, which is in a remote area, crashed or landed.

California Highway Patrol and firefighting helicopters were also in the area.
