Arraignment continued for Vallejo teacher accused of disabled student's rape

VALLEJO, CA - An Elk Grove man suspected of raping a developmentally challenged student aide was arrested Monday afternoon.

Jerry Johnson, 56, was a special education teacher at Loma Vista Elementary School, said Vallejo police Lt. Eric W. Mortenson. Johnson taught children ranging from pre-kindergarten to kindergarten.

The 18-year-old victim, who has the mental development of a 7-year-old, was a student aide helping Johnson with the other developmentally disabled students, Mortenson said.

The assault allegedly happened on school campus during school hours.

Mortenson said Johnson was taken into custody on a $750,000 arrest warrant.

Johnson's arraignment Tuesday afternoon on one count of rape of the developmentally disabled with an enhancement of great bodily injury was continued until a public defender could be assigned to him. The enhancement stems from the fact the victim is pregnant.

West Stockton Blvd. road closure scheduled for June 26

West Stockton Blvd. road closure scheduled for June 26

ELK GROVE - In a press release Tuesday, the City of Elk Grove announced it will be closing West Stockton Boulevard between Laguna Springs Drive and north of Laguna Palms Way for road maintenance on Sunday, June 26. The one-day closure is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

As part of the city’s pavement management program, crews will be applying a pavement preservation treatment to extend the life of the asphalt. The application will prevent water from seeping under the pavement, which can rapidly deteriorate a road.

Drivers are urged to not park or drive on the road on Sunday until the project is complete.

Detours will be clearly marked. Message signs will alert motorists in advance of the road closure before work begins. Residents and businesses in the vicinity have been notified in writing.

For more information, call the City of Elk Grove Public Works Department at (916) 687-3005.

The CSD is working hard

Tree trimming has been happening along Laguna Blvd in the last week or so and it was much needed.........I heard several people complaining about the overgrowth there and I've also heard complaints about the long grass and weeds in some of our parks and my response is get used to it...... while I've had some issues with CSD in the past the truth is they're doing what they can in these days of financial limitations......while there's little if anything we can do about the trees lining our streets when they start to interfere with traffic there's lots we can do about OUR parks starting with cleaning up after ourselves.......let's keep the CSD on it's toes but at the same time let's do what we can to make their job a little easier.

Witnesses collar prison guard following DUI crashes

SACRAMENTO, CA - Witnesses who watched a prison guard slam into multiple parked cars prevented him from leaving the supermarket parking lot until the CHP arrived.

Witnesses said David Perrault, 43, identified himself as a California correctional officer.  The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation later confirmed his employment.

Adam Urnberg, who works in the Safeway shopping center at 8377 Elk Grove Florin Road, said he heard a crash and initially thought it was a routine fender bender.

"He just kept going," Urnberg said.

Perrault's blue Mustang hit a total of four parked cars before body damage prevented the front tires from turning.  Urnberg and another witness, Derek Green, watched Perrault get out of the car.

"He had a bottle of peppermint schnapps in his hand, wrapped in a T-shirt, and this keys were in the other hand," Green said.
