Roadwork on Interstate 5 begins Sunday

ELK GROVE - Caltrans roadwork on Interstate 5 will begin in Elk Grove and South Sacramento beginning Sunday, June 12. A $58.6 million project will repave, resurface and restripe I-5 from the San Joaquin County line to the Florin Road overcrossing.

Drivers can expect north and southbound traffic delays of up to 15 minutes due to lane restrictions and traffic control between 9 p.m. - 6 a.m. Sunday through Saturday. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by Fall 2012.

Roadside message boards will be used to post the latest information. Unexpected weather may prolong or cause the construction to be rescheduled. Caltrans officials urge drivers to use caution in these areas and to "Slow for the Cone Zone."

Get Involved---Pay Attention

Some friends came to visit us last week for the first time in years and they were amazed to see what the population of Elk Grove now is------with  150,000 plus now living here we are experiencing more of what bigger cities deal with regularly.......crime is probably the biggest case in point----more than a week ago there was a robbery at the Taco Bell on Laguna Blvd where two suspects displayed a short-barrel revolver and ordered employees to give them money.......the two suspects were last seen running down Laguna Blvd with an undisclosed amount of cash.......the description of the suspects doesn't really reveal much and that's a part of the problem.......while none of us go out on the town anticipating we'll witness a robbery or any other crime it's imperative that if that should happen we should be all eyes........as a longtime reporter that's kind of second nature for me but unfortunately it needs to be second nature for many of us if not all of us........as polic
