This Saturday you can get a good meal and help out the Elk Grove Senior Center all at the same time…..The EGSC is hosting a tri tip dinner fundraiser where you can get a meal for four for only $40--- The dinner includes an uncut tri tip, baked potatoes, beans, salad, rolls, and desert…The center is in need of a new van that can be used to take seniors to and from their doctor appointments and other errands and the money raised will go a long way toward making that happen……..Pick up will be on the half hour from 3pm to 6pm this Saturday, May 11th-----give the Senior Center a call at 685-3160 to place your order.

UPDATE: Man, 85, missing after hospital visit located

SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department says Ross Hightower, who went missing after he left a south Sacramento hospital Monday afternoon, has been found.

Hightower, 85, was safe, said sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos. No other details about where and when Hightower was found were made available.

“Stamp Out Hunger” Annual U.S. Postal Food Drive is Saturday, May 11

On the second Saturday of May each year the letter carriers in Elk Grove will be conducting a food drive to assist the less fortunate in our city. The U.S. Postal Food Drive is the country’s largest one day-collection. “We are truly grateful for the response to the drive in past years and the dedication of our local letter carriers,” said Executive Director, Marie Jachino.

The Elk Grove Food Bank Services is always in need of a helping hand, but Saturday, May 11, we will get the help of several hands. All over Elk Grove letter carriers will deliver mail and pick up canned goods and non-pershiable food.

Remember the Postal Carrier food drive is Saturday, May 11, the day before another important day, Mothers Day!

Elk Grove is honoring our “Hometown Heroes” with a barbeque on May 18th…….. Elk Grove celebrates National Nurses Week

The City Council of Elk Grove issued a proclamation to the California Correctional Health Care Services to celebrate National Nurse's Week "Delivering Quality and Innovation in Patient Care," May 6 through May 12, 2013.

The proclamation honors the registered nurses who strive to provide safe and high quality patient care, and asks the residents of Elk Grove to celebrate registered nursing's accomplishments and efforts to improve our health care system.

Toby Johnson Middle School teacher selected for 2013 Summer Fellowship in Korean Studies for America

Arlis Groves, a social science teacher at Toby Johnson Middle School, has been selected to attend the 2013 Summer Fellowship in Korean Studies for American Educators, sponsored by the Korea Society in partnership with the Korea Foundation and the Freeman Foundation.

Groves will participate in a 12-day, expenses-paid study tour of Korea during which fellows will visit a high school, museums and sites of historical and cultural interest.  Lectures on Korean history, culture, politics, economics, arts and language will be provided by university faculty.  The fellowship, which runs from June 26 to July 7, is open to middle and high school social studies and world history teachers.
