Elk Grove to Host Meeting on Proposed Animal Shelter

The City of Elk Grove will hold a workshop to gather public input on a proposed city-run animal shelter.
At the workshop participants can provide feedback on how animal shelter services should operate in the city, and receive information on Elk Grove’s operational and facility options, industry best practices, as well as the outcome of preliminary project data collection.

The meeting is being held in conjunction with the city’s consultants, Indigo I Hammond + Playle Architects, LLP, who are conducting a needs assessment study and the U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.

The meeting will be held on Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. at Elk Grove City Hall... Read More

Please Help Lost Dog

Please Help Lost Dog

South Sacramento -- This friendly dog needs to find his owners or a new home ASAP. Nicknamed "Sparky," he is very dirty with matted fur and was found wandering around Stockton Blvd. and Elder Creek Road. His extreme physical condition suggests Sparky has been on his own a long time. Although there's an old collar with a broken rope around his neck, Sparky has no ID tag. He appears to be a poodle mix weighing about 20 pounds. Craving affection, Sparky is quiet and obedient. At this time, he's hanging around my neighborhood and desperately needs a new home! Please call me at 916-519-9707 if you are Sparky's owner who wants him to come home, or if you will give him a new one!

San Joaquin County, CA – As part of its efforts to conserve and protect earth’s resources, Micke Grove Zoo follows the action program of “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.” The Zoo’s Animal Care Specialists created a soil bed that is used to compost kitchen waste and two separate beds for growing produce. The kitchen waste includes leftover or unusable portions of animal diets created in the animal kitchen. The animal kitchen is where diets are prepared for all of the captive wildlife housed at the Micke Grove Zoo.

Elk Grove Subaru donates nearly $10,000 to local animal welfare organization

Today, Elk Grove Subaru in partnership with Subaru of America presented the Sacramento SPCA with a check for $9,333.10 at its dealership located at 8581 Laguna Grove Drive. The money was raised during Subaru’s fifth annual “Share the Love” event held late last year.

“Share the Love” is an annual initiative allowing customers who purchase or lease a new Subaru to decide which charities would receive a donation from the company.

The list of charities included the ASPCA, Make-A-Wish, Meals on Wheels, the National Park Foundation, and Teach for America. As part of the program, individual Subaru retailers were allowed to add a sixth charity to the mix. Elk Grove Subaru, of the Lasher Auto Group, chose the Sacramento SPCA.
