Elk Grove to Celebrate Independence Day With Annual Firework Show

The City of Elk Grove will celebrate Independence Day with the 19th annual Salute to the Red, White and Blue festivities on July 4 at the Elk Grove Regional Park. 

Festivities begin at 4 p.m. with the opening of vendor exhibits followed by the “Let Freedom Ride” Bike and Stroller Parade at 5:30 p.m. and entertainment from the Sacramento Single Squares, beach rock music by Safety Orange, and a glow show by Obsidian Butterfly beginning at 6 p.m.

The 11th Annual Run 4 Hunger benefiting the Elk Grove Food Bank will take place next Saturday at the Elk Grove Regional Park. The event includes a flat, 5k, 10k courses for adults, as well as quarter and half mile runs for kids 12 and under.

Kaiser Permanente awards nearly $140,000 to nonprofit organizations serving the Elk Grove area

Kaiser Permanente has awarded 56 grants totaling nearly $1.5 million to 54 local not-for-profit organizations, schools and government entities serving the greater Sacramento community. That includes $140,000 in funds to organizations serving the Elk Grove area.

The Community Benefit grants – which range in individual amounts from $5,000 to $97,304 – are part of a longstanding practice for Kaiser Permanente, the region’s leading integrated health-care provider, which works to improve the health of the communities it serves in Sacramento, Yolo, Placer and El Dorado counties. Overall, the grants seek to improve access to medical care, support mental health services, reduce violence, develop the workforce and promote healthy eating and active living.

The largest allocation of funding will help the uninsured and underinsured access health care programs and services at various community clinics and organizations.

Ooh La La…Sacramento Self-Help Housing Presents 13th Annual “Let Them Eat Cake” on July 14

Sacramento Self-Help Housing, a charitable non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of homelessness in our region, is proud to present the 13th Annual “Let Them Eat Cake” in celebration of Bastille Day at The Grand Ballroom (1215 J Street in Sacramento) on Tuesday evening, July 14, 2015 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Music, dining and dessert lovers will indulge in a grand Bastille Day celebration with outstanding local cuisine, wines and beverages, cake tasting, soothing music and more.   Guests will enjoy listening to the sounds of the multi-talented musician Gabe Dixon and the dynamic Tender Cinders Band while viewing and bidding on artwork created by some of the region’s most exciting and groundbreaking new artists.  Each year, the “Let Them Eat Cake” fundraising event is scheduled on or near Bastille Day (note that Marie Antoinette is credited with coining the memorable “Let Them Eat Cake” phrase shortly before the Fren
