Caltrans: Elk Grove businessman arrested for grand theft

SACRAMENTO, CA - The owner of an Elk Grove printing business is alleged to have defrauded California taxpayers of $1.8 million when he pocketed Caltrans payments for personal use rather than for the jobs for which he was paid.

Eric Blaine Hodgson, 43,, the owner of Phenix Print & Image of Elk Grove, faces 22 counts of grand theft, according to Caltrans and California Department of Justice.

Caltrans contracted with Hodgson in 2008 and 2009 to have his company advertise new construction contracts to bidders in publications, as required by law. A routine check for proof of publication led to a review of invoices submitted by Hodgson to Caltrans.

The DOJ investigation found the invoices from Hodgson for his work were made up and the contracts were not printed in local newspapers, according to Caltrans spokesperson Tamie McGowan.

Sacramento man accused of selling guns across state lines arrested by federal agents

SACRAMENTO, CA - A Sacramento man faces federal charges after prosecutors said he bought guns in Nevada that he sold to a gang member in California.

Federal authorities on Tuesday arrested 27-year-old Dejon Andrade on suspicion of illegally dealing firearms, interstate travel with intent to unlawfully deal in firearms and other charges.

"The individuals who illegally buy and sell firearms across state lines to arm dangerous gangsters are just as responsible for the violent crimes committed by the criminals as those who pull the triggers on these ill-gotten weapons," Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Special Agent in Charge Joseph M. Riehl said.

U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner said Andrade was barred from buying guns in California because he is on parole, so he instead used fake identification on federal firearm purchase forms to get them in Reno, Nev.

Masked men sexually assault woman in park

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA - An organized attack on a young woman last week has many still afraid to walk through a park in south Sacramento.

On the evening of March 13, the victim, a 21-year-old woman, was sitting alone in the Countryside Community Park, near East Stockton Boulevard and Power Inn Road, when she was approached by three men, Sacramento County sheriff's deputies said. The suspects were all wearing black hooded sweatshirts, black gloves and black plastic masks.

The men then worked as a team to sexually assault the woman. Deputies said one of the suspects grabbed the victim and actually carried her over his shoulder to a secluded area of the park. That's where he and another man held her down, while still the third attacker groped her and lifted his mask to lick her neck.

As the victim tried to get away, one of the attackers punched her. When the woman noticed people walking nearby, she screamed for help and the suspects ran away.
