Father gets custody of boy, 11, accused of beating disabled mom | Crime

SACRAMENTO, CA - An 11-year-old Elk Grove boy accused of severely beating his disabled mother was released to the custody of his father Monday.

The boy is facing assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse charges. Police say the boy used an extension cord on his mother.

Police investigators say the boy had taken on the role of caregiver for his mother.

His next court hearing is in October.

The boy was arrested and placed in juvenile hall last week. His mother was treated at the hospital for her injuries and placed into the custody of Adult Protective Services.
