ELK GROVE, Calif. - The Elk Grove Police Department is giving teens the chance test their abilities to drive while distracted starting March 25th.

Elk Grove police officer Christopher Trim says it's a great opportunity for young drivers to learn and see firsthand how the slightest distractions can result in disastrous consequences.

The free, four-hour sessions are being held at the abandoned mall site off Highway 99 and Grant Line Rd. starting March 25 and ending March 29.

ELK GROVE, Calif. -  The grand opening is set for a new Walmart in Elk Grove Wednesday.  The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 7:30 a.m., and the public is encouraged to attend. 

The store will be the second Walmart in the Elk Grove area.  Another store is located along Elk Grove Boulevard off Highway 99.

The new store brings roughly 265 new jobs to the area.   Walmart will continue accepting applications for positions that become available. 

The average hourly wage for a Walmart associate in California is $12.93.

The new Walmart is 148,200 square feet and is located near the intersection of Bruceville Road and Whitelock Parkway.  It has more than 30 merchandise departments including a garden center, pharmacy, digital processing lab, and a Subway sandwich restaurant.

The store's operating hours will be 8 a.m. - 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. -10 p.m. on Sundays.
