Though hailed as a precursor to summertime gatherings, Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) has its roots in independence. It’s the day Mexicans commemorate their 1862 defeat of the French army in the Battle of Puebla. This holiday is embraced as a delicious chance to celebrate Mexican culture and history.

Cover your bases with refreshing drinks, quick dips and sauces, versatile sides and salads, savory mains and spiced-up desserts.

Start the party right with festive sippables.

Dips and salsas dress up any table.

Sides are great for sopping up flavorful sauces or offering up their own bold statement.

Nugget's Array from Ettore

In my professionally trained culinery opinion, Nugget's cake assortment could not get any better. No need to even try. Yet, they did it. They brought in an array from Ettore's!

Nugget locations now carry Ettore cakes that adorn the entire top shelf of the display case, which you can also buy by the slice.

Why the fuss and what's the big deal, you ask? Have you tasted Ettore's cakes? Why, yes I have. Have you studied under Ettore? Yes, I have. Cake...it just makes everything ok, or at least a heck of a lot better. Cake is my favorite word in the English language. Just hearing it makes me happy.

Bakery Celebrating Sweet Success

Sinful Treats, a locally-owned and operated bakery, is proof that if you mix great baking and determination, success is sure to rise.

What began as an online bakery business in 2009 has since grown to include a commercial kitchen and storefront at 5650 Whitelock Parkway in Elk Grove. The bakery will be welcomed into the Elk Grove Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon cutting from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10.

The bakery also will be adding a new monthly Tasting Party event to its repertoire, beginning Friday, April 26. Customers will be able to sample delicious baked goods and mingle at the party, which will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tasting Parties will be held on the last Friday of each month. Both the ribbon cutting and tasting party are open to the public; RSVPs are encouraged.
