EGUSD partners with Sacramento River Cats on fundraiser for EGUSD athletic programs

The Elk Grove Unified School District invites students, staff, parents and community members to spend an evening enjoying “America’s favorite pastime” at an EGUSD Night/Service Learning Night at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013 during the Sacramento River Cats vs. Las Vegas 51s game.

The EGUSD Night at the River Cats game is a fundraiser to benefit EGUSD athletics programs.  For Service Learning Night, students who complete their service learning hours will earn one free ticket to the game.  Additional guests will have the option to purchase additional tickets.  Schools participating in the district’s service learning program will be recognized during the pre-game and on the matrix board at the stadium.

The John Reith Elementary School Marching All-Stars will also play “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch.

The new Elk Grove Walmart Neighborhood Market, located at 8455 Elk Grove Blvd., will make a $1,000 donation to Elk Grove High School during a brief check-presentation ceremony Friday, Jan. 11. The presentation will be held at Elk Grove High School prior to the start of the boy’s basketball game. Walmart is proud to support the community and youth athletics.

EGUSD student athletes to sign letters of intent for college scholarships

On December 10, 2012, 11 student-athletes from the Elk Grove Unified School District will be recognized for signing an NCAA National Letter of Intent for a college scholarship.  These student-athletes will be attending an array of colleges and universities, both here in California and across the country. The ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Sheldon High School (8333 Kingsbridge Drive, Sacramento 95829).

The following student-athletes will be recognized:

Elk Grove High School: Dom Nunez, UCLA for baseball, Taryn Redowden, Loyola Marymount University for softball and Ryan Tellez, USC for baseball.

Franklin High School: Tyler Blake, CSU Sacramento for baseball.

Pleasant Grove: Josh Adams, UC Santa Barbara for baseball, Morgan Carter, Utah State University for softball, Dejza James, University of Arizona for basketball, Amber Murray and Eastern Kentucky University for softball.

Pocket Softball League Represents Sac in Western National Championships

Pocket Softball League Represents Sac in Western National Championships

Two teams from the Pocket Softball League are headed to their age level’s respective Western National Championships representing the Greater Sacramento Softball Association. 

The 12U Pocket All Stars played extremely well at the ASA Association Championship tournament at Lembi Park in Folsom on June 23rd-24th.  The team took 3rd place and posted a 4-1 record in the “B” Division.  They logged wins against Elk Grove, Five Cities, Foothill and Roseville, eventually losing to another Elk Grove team in a semi-final game.  The team received a large team trophy and all of the girls received medals.  The 3rd place finish qualified the 12U team for the Western National Tournament in Salem, Oregon on July 30th – August 4th.

Under the tutelage of volunteer Coach Steve Cobb, the “Pocket Aces” fastpitch team ripped through the two-day competition in Lincoln, June 23rd-June 24

Franklin High student heads to Junior Olympics

At her personal best of 18' 9.25' Jorden O'Neal of Franklin High School in Elk Grove placed 4th for the Sac-Joaquin Section Marks in the women's long jump in Track and Field this season. Her outstanding performance met the National Silver Standard and placed her on the ESPN HS, Top 100 US Elite Athletes list.

Jorden says that she's not done yet, and that she plans to set a new record at the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Houston, Texas, on August 1, 2012. The Olympic Games will run from July 25th through August 4, 2012, where Jorden will attempt to improve her personal best in the Long Jump and shave seconds off her PR of 12.72 seconds in the 100 meter dash.
