Pocket Softball League Represents Sac in Western National Championships

Two teams from the Pocket Softball League are headed to their age level’s respective Western National Championships representing the Greater Sacramento Softball Association.

The 12U Pocket All Stars played extremely well at the ASA Association Championship tournament at Lembi Park in Folsom on June 23rd-24th.  The team took 3rd place and posted a 4-1 record in the “B” Division.  They logged wins against Elk Grove, Five Cities, Foothill and Roseville, eventually losing to another Elk Grove team in a semi-final game.  The team received a large team trophy and all of the girls received medals.  The 3rd place finish qualified the 12U team for the Western National Tournament in Salem, Oregon on July 30th – August 4th.

Under the tutelage of volunteer Coach Steve Cobb, the “Pocket Aces” fastpitch team ripped through the two-day competition in Lincoln, June 23rd-June 24th, and won the ASA Association Championship handily.  The team qualified to compete against teams from other California regions at the California State Games in San Diego July 19th-22nd.  The California State Games (CalStateGames.org) is a co-ed festival of Olympic-style competition for the California’s amateur athletes.  The State Games is a community-based member of the United States Olympic Committee and features 25 other sporting events, 22 of which are held in San Diego in July.

Just this past weekend the “Pocket Aces” took 1st place in the NorCal Tournament held at Elk Grove Park.  This 1st place win makes four total championships in the four tournaments they have played.  The team’s overall record is 21-1-1!  We have high hopes that this team will place high at the regional level, with the next step being the State Games of America in Hershey, PA.

The Pocket Girls Softball League is holding a fundraiser this coming Saturday, July 14th to raise money for the teams travel expenses.  This fundraiser consists of a Car Wash, Rummage Sale and Pancake Breakfast from 8 am – 2 pm at Caroline Wenzel Elementary at 6870 Greenhaven Drive, Sacramento  95831.  The suggested donation for car wash is $5 and the Pancake Breakfast is $5 per person.

Thank you in advance for your support!
