Political Money In Elk Grove
- It wasn’t that long ago that Elk Grove was just a little sleepy suburb of Sacramento but now we’re growing up politically------First it was campaign vandalism and now it’s big money…….Two current city council members, Gary Davis and Steve Detrick, have raised more than $100,000 for their November campaigns…….Davis is hoping to become the first directly elected mayor of Elk Grove and Detrick is running unopposed for re-election to his District 3 council seat…….In both cases the money has come from a wide array of contributors and in both cases it’s a lot more money than the other three council members have raised-----Sophia Scherman, who’s also running for mayor, hasn’t disclosed her fundraising totals (she filed after the first deadline to so) but she’s loaned her campaign $6000 of her own money----Councilman Jim Cooper has a cash balance of more than $31,000 in his campaign account----and Vice Mayor Pat Hume has a cash balance of close to $24,000 but has yet to pay off a $25,000 loan he made to his campaign when he first ran for the council six years ago……. We’ve come a long way from the days would be council members would drive around town and put up their own campaign signs.
