2012 Weekly Challenge #23: The Power of Encouragement

G. K. Chesterton, an English journalist, once wrote, “The really great person is the person who makes every person feel great.”

When two people interact, they are both changed. The change can be for the better, or not. Whether our influence is helpful or hurtful, positive or negative, depends on whether we give each other the gift of encouragement.

Leatherby’s hype hasn’t faltered

Leatherby’s hype hasn’t faltered

It’s been more than a month since Leatherby’s had its soft (and official) opening on May 1. Once customers found out that the ice creamery was open to the public, people have been lining up out the door to get a taste of their frozen, creamy treats since.

That hype hasn’t died down just yet. Spending some QT with my 4-year-old daughter on a Wednesday evening ended with a trip to Elk Grove’s new Leatherby’s. We got there around 7 p.m. and there was still a line and wait for a table. On. A. Wednesday.

We ended up just picking up some cones and eating them outside.

So why all the hype? Aside from yummy ice cream (they serve food too) people I’ve talked to all said they love the family atmosphere and friendly service. Have you tried the new Leatherby’s in Elk Grove? What do you think?

The decision to take a career break hasn't been an easy one, Sharon says,  but she feels it is important to spend more time with her 11-year-old daughter and family.

Salvation Army to Honor Community Leaders

Billed as the largest event of its kind in California's capital region, The Salvation Army will hold its Annual Community Luncheon on Tuesday, May 29th at the Woodlake Hotel starting at noon.

Join News10's Dale Schornack and Cristina Mendonsa as they help thank and recognize the individuals and companies who have shown a long history of helping people in need.

With more than 1,000 business and governmental leader sin attendance, the luncheon is an opportunity for The Salvation Army to showcase its programs and give fiscal and service reports to the community.

Last year's luncheon raised more than $274,000 in proceeds to support local Salvation Army programs and services year-round.

Child Safety Awareness Month

Over 100,000 children go missing in California each year.

An estimated 1,478 cases of family abductions and 53 cases of stranger abduction occur annually in California. In addition more than 90,000 kids, mostly teens, run away.

Fingerprints are critical tools in being able to bring children home safely, yet most parents don't have their child's fingerprints recorded.
