Mother of 11-year-old boy accused of beating her, dies | News

ELK GROVE, CA - The disabled mother of an 11-year-old Elk Grove facing charges he abused her died Monday night.

Elk Grove police spokesman Officer Chris Trim said the 51-year-old woman passed away at a local hospital of a pre-existing medical condition. He said her death was not connected to the beating she suffered early this month. She had been hospitalized since then.

Her son, who was his mother's primary caregiver, prepared meals and did laundry in the home they shared. He was arrested on Sept. 10.

The boy was released into his father's custody on Monday. He had been held in Sacramento County juvenile hall on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse.  Police say the boy beat his mother with an extension cord.

The boy returns to court next month.
