ELK GROVE, CA - A man is in critical condition after accidentally being shot during a celebratory pig slaughter on Saturday morning, Elk Grove police said.
According to Officer Chris Trim, the victim and his older brother had two pigs laid out to be killed in their backyard off the 8400 block of Kinder Lane.
The two men went ahead and put one pig down, and as the older brother fired off his gun at the other pig, it bucked its head back.
Trim said the older brother's .22 caliber rifle was knocked back by the pig, which then accidentally went off a second time and stuck the victim face.
The victim, who is being described as either a 27 or 28-year-old man, was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
It's unclear why the brothers were shooting the pigs in the first place.
