Elk Grove Swears-in Two New Members, Two Incumbents to City Council

In a crowd not seen since its incorporation in 2000, the city council chambers at the Elk Grove City Hall were overflowing with well-wishers tonight for the swearing-in ceremony of four Elk Grove City Council Members.

The four taking the oath were incumbent members Mayor Gary Davis and Pat Hume, both of whom were reelected unopposed. Last week, we told the world (ok, Facebook) what we were thankful for.  This week's challenge is about giving thanks to someone who may or may not still be in your life who helped you. You may have never told them, but now is your opportunity.

Our Main Mama Lorri Ann says:  "Mine was Miss Machado, my 8th grade teacher.  She believed in me, and encouraged me as my English teacher to write and express myself. Having a chaotic and painful home life, I looked forward to her words of encouragement to me. She never knew how big an influence she was on my life."

Mike Jones, an Elk Grove Unified School District resource teacher, has been selected by U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein to receive the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute’s (CCAI) Angels in Adoption award.  He will be recognized on Wednesday, September 17 at CCAI in Washington, D.C.

An Elk Grove-based professional athlete has broken into the top 10 worldwide rankings recently.
According to the International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation (IWWF), professional waterskier Brian Detrick is now ranked eighth in the sport's slalom classification. Detrick’s recent performances have moved him up ten places on the IWWF Elite Skier List since the onset of the 2014 season.
