Two More Highway Billboards to Grace Elk Grove's Highway 99 Scenery

Soon, Elk Grove will have two more tall monument billboards greeting visitors travelling through the city along Highway 99. The billboards, which will be 75 and 80-feet tall, will be installed near Elk Grove Boulevard and Grant Line Road respectively. The first step in the predetermined approval of the massive structures comes this Thursday night when the Elk Grove Planning Commission will hear from the applicant that will develop them.  
The applicant, Concord, Calif. based-Reynolds and Brown, will erect the structures on parcels located at 9960 and 10465 East Stockton Boulevard. Both signs will be on the east side of Highway 99. ... Read More

Elk Grove City Council Approves Most Grant Recommendations

With the exception of one request, the Elk Grove City Council approved all the Community Block Development (CDBG) and Community Services Grants (CSG) as recommended by the city staff at last week's regular meeting.

In total, the council granted $816,263 for CDBG's infrastructure projects, such as several sidewalk fill-in projects throughout the city, and $355,100 to CSG's for social-based programs. Funding is provided by the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development... Read More

Elk Grove Unveils Pro Soccer Stadium Plans; Will Seek Annexation of Grant Line Road Site

The City of Elk Grove will unveil the plans for its proposed soccer stadium and competitive fields at next Wednesday's Elk Grove City Council meeting.

According to a staff report prepared for the meeting, the proposed facility is estimated to cost between $105.1 and $117.7 million dollars with the stadium accounting for $43.7 million of the entire costs. When The MLS Entourage Visits Elk Grove, What Will They See?

When representatives from Major League Soccer (MLS) visit Sacramento and Elk Grove later this month, they will undoubtedly be given heavy-duty sales pitches on why either city is well-suited to host an expansion team.

While we will not know the exact itinerary of the visiting MLS entourage, we are fairly certain they will visit the prospective sites each city will be pitching. For Sacramento, the presumptive sites will include Bonney Field and the Railyard area while Elk Grove's will be its recent purchase of 99-acres along Grantline Road. 

When the entourage visits Elk Grove, one has to believe a portion of the meeting between the MLS, Elk Grove officials and Fabian Nunez will take place at city hall. So if the meeting is held at city hall and then moves to the Grantline Road site, what route will be taken to the site?... Read More

Old Town Elk Grove Triennial Update Community Meeting set for Nov. 14

Elk Grove, CA – The City of Elk Grove will host a community meeting on Nov. 14 about the Old Town Elk Grove Special Planning Area document.

A Special Planning Area, or SPA, is a master planning document that regulates properties within a defined area having unique environmental, historic, architectural or other features which require special conditions not provided through the application of standard zone regulations. 

The City updates the Old Town SPA every three years and completed the most recent update in May 2010. The 2010 update resulted in significant, effective changes to the document including modifications to the land use, parking and signs sections.  During the 2010 workshops participants also developed vision statements addressing land use, site design, signs, and architecture standards.

Overnight Highway 99 Closures Planned for Pedestrian and Bicycle Overcrossing

Elk Grove, CA – Beginning next week, work on the Elk Grove Creek Trail Pedestrian and Bicycle Overcrossing will require overnight freeway and road closures at Highway 99 between Laguna Blvd. and Elk Grove Blvd. 

This month, construction crews will build the new freeway pedestrian bridge framework, requiring nighttime closures starting Tuesday.   Motorists can expect delays near the project on the following dates and times:

·         Oct. 8 and 9: West Stockton Blvd. at Elk Grove Creek, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

·         Oct. 9 and 10: East Stockton Blvd. at Elk Grove Creek, 10 p.m.to 6 a.m.

·         Oct. 14 and 15: Southbound lanes on Highway 99, midnight to 4 a.m.

·         Oct. 16 and 17:  Northbound lanes on Highway 99, midnight to 4 a.m.
