I'm baaaaaack! I hope you enjoyed my guest posters in my absence. We are safely in Florida, slowly getting settled in our apartment, finally back online...and still waiting for our stuff to come from California, where it is still sitting in a storage space. ETA: maybe by the 22nd, maybe not. In the meantime, I'm making do with my road trip clothes, although I have made a few additions since we arrived (like this sweater)...

Interview attire – The dos and don’ts [guest post]

Interview attire – The dos and don’ts [guest post]

Angeline is off roadtripping across the country and getting acclimated to a new way of life. She was sweet enough to ask me to step in with a blog post. I’m thrilled to be guest posting for her today.
As a journalist who has been full time freelance for years now, I don’t have to interview for jobs in the traditional sense. And since I’ve begun leaning towards fashion and lifestyle writing even less of those occasions require the formal interview attire. Still, I’ve got a thing or two to say about what you should and shouldn’t wear to a job interview. You see, my father has worked in human resources for more than 30 years and so over the years I’ve picked up a few of his tips, pearls of wisdom, and pet peeves. And then there was that one summer I worked as his secretary and got to pre-screen candidates – boy, was that eye-opening....

How to survive a manic morning [Guest Post]

How to survive a manic morning [Guest Post]

While Angeline is moving cross country, she asked several bloggers to put together a guest post.  I was honored and wanted to provide some tips about getting ready faster because every Monday I need to be at work at 5 a.m.  My department at the university sends a live financial broadcast to a local television station on the 6 a.m. news.  While I find the lack of sleep on Sunday nights a definite challenge, it's much harder to figure out what to wear.  Add to that, it's my only early day all week (normally I am here at 8:30 a.m.), and I need to be dressed for physical labor...

Four years worth of project files. Don't worry—I cleaned them up before I left.
Well, friends...this is it. My last day of work. I had planned to work work work up until the last minute, but when I took a quick visual inventory of my well-settled cubicle yesterday after lunch, I realized I should start tackling it right away. I made it only part way through these filing cabinets before 5 p.m. yesterday.

Today's to-do list:

Detail on a fab new dress I got from the Citizen Rosebud at our blogger meet-up last night. I'm going to miss these ladies!
Happy Fourth of July weekend! I attended my last (::sniff sniff::) Sacramento fashion blogger meet-up last night at Thinkhouse Collective, and let's just say K sent me a text at 10 p.m. asking if I was okay (meet-up started at 6).
