Bay Bridge Retrofit Update

In mid-November another milestone is expected to be reached with the suspension portion and full completion expected in 2013.

It is work in several sections that will result in side by side lanes for part of the Bay Bridge into the city and from SF back to Oakland.  There will still be a double deck but it's been reinforced with millions of pounds of steel.

Turkey Troubles on the Road

We've been hearing about some turkey troubles on the roads. Bob sent us this picture on Delair in Laguna West. We've received alot of viewer response about other sightings. Johanna says there have been some on Golf Link Drive in Folsom and another viewer reports 30 in the Arden Arcade area. One of our producers says she faced a turkey in the road on several occasions in Davis. Share your road stories with us!

Help if you get car damage near a construction zone

We had a viewer wonder if there was any help if you got damage to your car near a construction site. His situation was along I-5 from Elk Grove to Florin where several lanes are often closed overnight for shoulder work and repaving. Mark Dinger with the Caltrans District 3 office says there is both a helpline and a website to file a complaint and get some relief. This may be an option for you should you have a similar experience:

A deadly stretch of Highway 12 is getting a closer look by Caltrans and governments in Sacramento and San Joaquin Counties. The 50 plus stretch between the Sacramento County line to Rio Vista and Suisun City has had its share of accidents.

You can weigh in on how to improve the safety, which in recent years had include the addition of rumble strips.

The public meeting is Tuesday July 26th, from 6-8 pm

Elk Grove police to hold DUI checkpoint Friday

ELK GROVE - The Elk Grove Police Department will conduct a Sobriety/Drivers License checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the city limits on Friday, July 15 from 8:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. The department is continuing its efforts at lowering the number of people killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes locally and through the county’s Avoid DUI Task Force Campaign with this DUI/Drivers License checkpoint.

Officers will be checking drivers to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as heightening awareness to the dangers of impaired driving. The summer months are a dangerous time of the year and your odds of being involved in an alcohol involved collision can be high.
